What is Member Orientation?
Our Member Orientation is a required first step before joining Fox Valley Clay. It's designed to familiarize you with the studio, how memberships work, and everything you need to confidently create independently.
We'll walk you through our wheel and handbuilding areas, glazing stations, tools, storage, and firing process. You'll learn about studio policies, 24/7 access, membership options, and how to use the 24hr Pottery app.
We'll also discuss your pottery experience, answer questions, and help determine if you're ready for independent studio access or if a class or Bootcamp would be a better starting point for you.
Ready to join? New members can sign up and start creating on Opening Day of the Studio! If you'd prefer to begin later, you can schedule your membership start date up to one month out, with prorated pricing based on your selected start date.
Our goal is to make sure every new member feels comfortable, prepared, and ready to make the most of their studio experience.
To ensure members can work independently, prior ceramics experience is required. We recommend starting with our Ceramic Bootcamp workshop or an equivalent offering, to build foundational skills. We also offer open studio hours for waitlisted prospective members, so your creativity doesn’t have to wait.

What's Included in Membership
Tools & Materials: Everything You Need to Create
From beginners to experienced potters, our studios are thoughtfully equipped with the tools, materials, and resources to support your creative practice.
- Kiln Firing: On-site electric kilns for bisque and mid-range glaze firings, with a typical 10-day turnaround. Kiln space is allocated for approximately 10 pieces with our 10-hour membership and approximately 30 pieces with our Unlimited membership per month.
- Glazes: A wide selection of dip and brush-on glazes included with membership. Outside glazes are welcome with studio approval and subject to studio firing requirements.
- Clay: A variety of studio-stocked clay bodies available for purchase through the 24hr Pottery app. Outside clay is also welcome, subject to studio firing requirements.
- Equipment & Tools: Shimpo Pottery wheels, an XL slab roller, clay extruders, spacious handbuilding tables, and a wide selection of shared tools.
